Host Magazine Masterclass: Šimon Holý - How (not) to make a film
The next event in the Host Magazine Masterclass series will take place on Wednesday 29 January 2025 at 7pm at the CED Cellar Stage. This time it will be presented by director Šimon Holý on the topic: How (not) to make a film
The director Šimon Holý will explain how to (not) make films on expample of his first four films, and will reflect on the principles he has chosen for each of his films and how the audience and critics have reacted to them.
Šimon Holý was born in 1994 in Prague. He graduated from the Department of Feature Film Directing at FAMU. He has composed music for many films and was nominated for the Czech Lion Award by the Czech Film and Television Academy for his music for the film Winter flies by Olmo Omerzu.
For more than ten years he cooperated with the Czech Radio station Radio Wave, where he also hosted the Kompot podcast and stream broadcasts for several years. Currently, he contributes to the podcasts Poprask for Reflex magazine and RANT Prostoru for Revue Prostor.
His feature debut, Mirrors in the Dark, premiered in Karlovy Vary in 2021 and toured the world. The film was nominated for two Czech Film Critics Awards, including the Discovery of the Year Award. His second film, And Then There Was Love..., premiered a year later in Karlovy Vary in the Proxima competition and was nominated for both the Czech Film Critics Award and the Czech Lion Award. His third film Hello, Welcome opened the Summer Film School in Uherské Hradiště in 2024. He is currently finishing his fourth film Chica Checa.
Host Masterclass is intended as a series of lectures in which prominent personalities of cultural life talk about their profession and life. The event is supported by the Czech State Fund for Culture.
The masterclass will be led in Czech without translation.
